Garway Templar Church, Herefordshire

The Church of St. Michael Garway is one of six Templar churches in England. There was a Celtic/Saxon church there before the time of the Templars, according to ancient documents. During the reign of Henry II, possibly between 1165 and 1180, the Church and lands of Garway were given to the Knights Templar by Henry II. The gift was confirmed to the on the 16th of July 1199, by King John, and it was stated to comprise all the land of Llangarewi (Garway). The Church was built on the site of a holy well.
